Sock tabs - Still Very Collectible

Leeds United Sock Tap

Leeds United Sock Tap

The above sock tag sold recently on eBay for £41.99 but why are they so collectible?
The sock tag, was designed by Spurs fan, former world speed-kissing champ and Roy of the Rovers artist, Paul Trevillion. It was football’s last great fashion innovation. Utterly pointless and enduringly brilliant, numbered sock tags  were adopted by the club for the 1973/74 season in an attempt to shake off the “hard” image of the club. Leeds went on to win the title that season and the sock tag is etched in our hearts forever.

Billy Bremner Diecast Model

A second batch of diecast models were sold this week on ebay by the same seller as before
The models were from a series of hand painted figures sold in the 1960’s and came complete with its original box.
Top priced was once again the legendary Billy Bremner which again went for as much as the next two highest priced models put together
Selling prices were as follows
Billy Bremner        £99.80
George Best        £68.85
Bobby Moore        £31.00
Martin Peters        £30.89
Gordon Banks        £25.00
Francis Lee        £25.00
Alan Ball        £20.00

The prices were somewhat below the prices fetched when the previous batch were sold but it just goes to prove what a legend the great man was.

Billy Bremner Diecast Model

The above rare diecast model of Billy Bremner was sold this week on ebay for £128.95.

The model was one of a series of hand painted figures sold in the 1960’s and came complete with its original box.

On ebay there were 8 different boxed items sold by the same seller as follows:

Bobby Charlton £46.00

Bobby Moore £41.00

Gordon Banks £36.00

Martin Peters £25.00

The wee man worth as much as Charlton and Best combined. No change there then.

Recently Bonham’s in London sold 20 unboxed versions of models similar to these sold for just £90. Just goes to prove the value of packaging

Get in the loft and see if you can find your models stashed away. Remember in future to keep those boxes.

Framed John Charles International Cap

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Below is a unique piece of sporting history of a Leeds legend.

It is a John Charles signed framed international cap from a time when the players would only receive one international cap per season. His international career started in 1950 when he made his debut against Northern Ireland at 18 years and 71 days becoming the youngest ever player to play for Wales. A record that he held until 1992.

He played 38 times for his country scoring 15 goals, his last appearance being in 1965.
