Huddersfield Town snatched 3 points after a dramatic win at Elland Road.  Town conceded a goal early on by Robert Snodgrass – we thought they had it in the bag as no one expected that the strike 45 seconds into the second half by Joe Skarz and the added time goal by Michael Collins, would result in a 2-1 win over the Mighty Whites, their first victory at Elland Road since Boxing Day 1983.

United started with total control in the early stages taking the lead when Town’s defence gifted Leeds United the opening goal after only four minutes as  Argentinean Striker, Becchio delivered a high hanging ball into the far post , enabling Robert Snodgrass to poke the ball home.

Unsuccessfully Town tried to fight back when Roberts aimed dreadfully right over the cross bar after Leeds United youngster, Ben Parker fouled a Town player.

Named England Under-19s Player, Fabian Delph bravely tried his luck with a long range shot, but it flew just wide of the left hand post.

Leeds seemed to be in totally control looking very dangerous going forward. It seemed a certain win.

Andy Robinson had a headed goal disallowed for offside as Leeds enjoyed most of the first-half possession.

Town defender, Nathan Clarke, was the first player to get a yellow card after maliciously overrunning the ball- smashing into Snodgrass as he innocently stretched to win it back. Snodgrass was on top form after this after, but unfortunately saw his curling effort deflected onto the roof of the goal net.

Town Player, Michael Collins captured a free kick but dreadfully screwed it up as it shot straight over the cross bar.

Miserably, Town scored straight from kick off making it a depressive start of the second half for United. It took 45 seconds for the goal by Sharz, to hit the back of the net making the Yorkshire Derby climax to hit its peak.  With 44 minutes left it was all to play for.

Leeds hit back promptly when Ben Parker made an exciting run into Towns penalty area, he beat three men before attempting to curl it in.

Leeds favourite, Douglas received a yellow card for holding Roberts back after he tried to break for the ball. This followed by a yellow card for Robinson after he understandably smashed into serial cheater Jim Goodwin who seemed to be favoured throughout the match by the referee.

Leeds almost conceded another goal when the ball was snatched from Delph, however United’s  players skills ran him to the goal line to stop his attempt of having a clear shot, resulting in the ball shooting over the cross bar.

Goodwin passed to Worthington on the 70th minute but once again resulted in it floating over the cross bar.

Beckford, ran the ball round Town Players before attempting to curl it round the keeper, unfortunately the keeper pounded it out, to consequently give away a corner. Following this Becchio unluckily headed it over the bar.

A jab in the back of the neck for Beckford by Jim Collins, was surely a yellow card as his crime was witnessed right in front of the referee but it was controversially ruled out, to the annoyance of the loyal Leeds fans who started singing ‘ the referees a w*nker.’

The Mighty Whites were pressing hard in the final stages with Robinson regrettably bending a shot wide from the far post.

Town alas scored a dramatic winner in added time, when he volleyed the ball into the top right hand corner of the net.

    Attendance: 18,540 (3,416 Leeds)

Travelling Leeds fans witnessed an undeserved defeat at Pride Park during Carling Cups fourth round, resulting into Derby going through to the quarter finals for the first time since 1990.

Seventeen minutes into the first half, Derby looked like they were going to settle for a comfortable win when Villa, then Ellington scored a goal opening up a two goal lead, Leeds drew possession before half time drawing the final score up to 2-1 with a goal by Becchio.

Leeds started the game in full swing, by Snodgrass when he beat three men before going on to shoot a vicious ball that was just saved by Derby’s goalie, however the first goal came from Villa seven minutes from the starting whistle when he overpowered defender Michalik, curling the ball past Casper.

Youngster Ben Parker, deftly challenged Derby when danger struck again.

United always equalised eleven minutes in when Delph expertly showed his skill, before passing to Becchio who saw a relentless ball deflected over the bar after a shot from Snodgrass.

Derby beat past Leeds defence finding just Casper to beat, where Ellington slotted the ball into the empty net to make Derby two goals up. Leeds reacted with some adroit football but Derby’s defence was strong.

Villa went close again thirty five minutes into the game, nevertheless the shot smashed into the side of the net. On the other hand, Robinson challenged Carroll with Derby goalkeeper deflecting the shot.

Revenge came on the fortieth minute when Snodgrass played the ball to Becchio who made a powerful header past Carroll. Making the score 2-1.

Delph tried his chances, by taking a shot from a distance, though it slithered just past the net – closing the first half.

Leeds went on with full spirits into the second half knowing full well they had played some talented football in the first half.

On the Fiftieth minute Snodgrass almost scored an equaliser when he tried to curl in a ball from a free-kick, before Robinson took his chances just past the hour mark where it was saved by Carroll.

Beckford was put on as a replacement for Robinson, where he got straight into the game when he fired an amazing shot into the side of the net as well as using his flair on the ball to just smash the ball wide from a free-kick.

Former United player, Hulse, challenged Casper for the first time since the first half – unsuccessfully.

Leeds still was playing for their deserved equaliser, when Delph tried his luck but he unfortunately was blasted wide.

Four minutes extra time was added and Michalik helped upfront where he chipped the ball just over the bar, before moments later skilled Beckford flicked the ball in the same fashion resulting in an undeserved loss for United, despite it being the best performance of the season so far.

Leeds United swiftly grabbed three points when successively defeating Cheltenham after three away defeats in a row.  Town conceded a the only goal of the game early on by Luciano Becchio –resulting in a 1-0 win, making it their fourth home defeat in a row.

Leeds once again made a domineering start, raising an amazing goal 7 minutes after the starting whistle. Leeds skipper Richardson released a perfect cross to unmarked Becchio who went on to score his ninth goal of the season.

Town Manager, Allen tries to conquer Leeds astounding start to the game by changing his formation, causing Cheltenham player Diallo to try his chances in Leeds penalty area, before fortunately blasting it over the cross bar.

Beckford attempts to smash the ball in from the corner of the penalty area, but Higgs swats it away before, moving on to Delphs skilled 20 yard attempt, resulting into a goal kick – where Leeds once again grabs immediate possession.

Jermaine fritters away another opportunity by crashing the ball straight over the cross bar, 10 yards for the box.

Cheltenham player Murray, tries his chances in the one minute extra time by aiming his ball to the edge of the Leeds box, before shooting it yards from the goal.

Surprisingly Cheltenham started off the second half, rather upbeat despite being a goal down, with Hayes shooting some malicious kicks; however Leeds defence challenged and defeated the danger.
Leeds nearly concedes a goal, when Connor goes in to score an equaliser, but goalie Ankergren barricades the ball from hitting the back of the net.

Becchio uses his skills to nearly score another, but Cheltenham’s goalie, Higgs, saves the ball, giving Robinson his chance to try and manoeuvre the ball into the net.
Robinson gets another chance when he writhers around Cheltenham’s defensive realising a wicked shot, narrowly missing the goal.

Beckford slips up again when he breaks free and has plenty of time to accelerate the ball into the back of the net; however a simple goal he makes complicated and ends up firing it over the bar.
Payne then tries his chances by curling the ball into the right- hand corner of the Leeds net before skilfully being deflected by Casper’s fingertips, Ridley takes the corner but Spencer can’t get near enough to head it in resulting into a ridiculous missed header and a bump on the head.

Diallo viciously slams into Becchio, on the half way line ensuing into a fair yellow card.
Trying his chances again, Becchio puts maximum effort into lashing in another goal, but Higgs dives and defends his net stopping the ball.

Michalik makes some defensive moves on Spencer 25 yards from the box, causing a yellow card, however Ridley wastes the chance of a free kick with a poor delivery.
Delph continues the booking when committing a clumsy foul, Payne takes the free kick but Leeds clears it, as the referee blows the whistle for full time.

    Leeds United Sock Tap

    Leeds United Sock Tap

The above sock tag sold recently on eBay for £41.99 but why are they so collectible?
The sock tag, was designed by Spurs fan, former world speed-kissing champ and Roy of the Rovers artist, Paul Trevillion. It was football’s last great fashion innovation. Utterly pointless and enduringly brilliant, numbered sock tags  were adopted by the club for the 1973/74 season in an attempt to shake off the “hard” image of the club. Leeds went on to win the title that season and the sock tag is etched in our hearts forever.

Below is a unique piece of sporting history of a Leeds legend.

It is a John Charles signed framed international cap from a time when the players would only receive one international cap per season. His international career started in 1950 when he made his debut against Northern Ireland at 18 years and 71 days becoming the youngest ever player to play for Wales. A record that he held until 1992.

He played 38 times for his country scoring 15 goals, his last appearance being in 1965.
